Biography
* 1976.

Daniel Buess was born in Basel. Following his studies at the Musikhochschule Basel under the tutelage of Siegfried Schmid and in Karlsruhe under Isao Nakamura, he intensified his never-ending search for unusual sound sources, which led him to realise his own regular and idiosyncratic projects. One such project is percussion/electronic concerts in garages, for which he created and used self-made acoustic and electronic percussion instruments.
Daniel Buess plays(ed) with various groups and ensembles in various fields of experimental contemporary music including CORTEX (with Alex Buess), 16-17, MIR (with Papiro and Michael Zaugg), HOW2 (with Daniel Stalder), Katarakt, B&B (with Christoph Bösch), Ensemble Piano&Percussion Stuttgart and the Ensemble Phœnix Basel, which he founded in 1998 together with Jürg Henneberger and Christoph Bösch. He tours regularly and performs at the most prestigious contemporary music festivals in Europe, Australia and Asia.
Daniel Buess collaborates with Alex Buess, Zbigniew Karkowski, John Duncan, Phill Niblock, Kasper Toeplitz, Julio Estrada, Michael Wertmüller, Franz Furrer-Münch, Volker Heyn, Thomas Lauck and Tim Hodgkinson et al. He has also worked on various radio and CD production projects.
