The Geneva Guitar Duo was founded in the year 2000 by Miriam Fernández (Argentina) and Mauricio Carrasco (Chille).
The pair met in the class of Maria Livia Saõ Marcos at Geneva Conservatory where, in 2002, they both received the "Premier Prix de Virtuosité" with distinction and, in 2004, their postgraduate degrees as chamber ensemble players with a special mention for contemporary music. They attended master classes headed by Jean-Jacques Balet and Dusan Bogdanovic parallel to their postgrad studies. Being interested in contemporary music and open for technological innovations the duo has world premiered several pieces by contemporary composers.
The duo was awarded the first prize (unanimous decision) at the Mauro Giuliani Competition in 2001 and received numerous prizes in Paris, Geneva, Montélimar and the Gaudeamus Competition in Holland. They have performed in concerts at the 'Palais du Congrès' in Paris, 'Théâtre Margarita Xirgu' in Buenos Aires and the 'Doelen Jurrianse Zaal' in Rotterdam and perform regularly in Europe and America.
The instruments of the Geneva Guitar Duo have been made by the guitar maker Mario Gropp.
