Biography
In her homeland Georgia Tamriko Kordzaia had already made a name for herself as an interpreter of Haydn and Mozart - an occupation that she continued following her move to Switzerland. There was, however, an increasing focus on new music, especially that of the younger generation of composers. That this is not necessarily a contradiction is shown by her solo programmes, in which the apparently incompatible meet again and again; there is Viennese classicism next to premières, Messiaenian next to post minimalist trash compositions or works by musicians from the rock and techno scene. In 2005 she recorded the complete piano works of Christoph Delz on CD. Tamriko Kordzaia studied in Tbilisi under Nana Tschikwaidse, Nodar Gabunia and Nana Chubutia, and in Switzerland under Homero Francesch and Hans-Jürg Strub. She received numerous national and international awards, among them the first prize and the Mozart prize at the International Sakai Competition in Osaka and the sponsorship award of the city of Winterthur. Tamriko Kordzaia devotes herself exclusively to the latest music in a piano duet with Dominik Blum (Steamboat Switzerland). Moreover, she has become active as an imparter of current music in Georgia and is the director the local "close encounters" festival. She lives in Zurich and has been a member of the Mondrian Ensemble since 2008.
