Christine Simolka was born in Lörrach and completed an eight-year study in singing under the tutelage of Nicole Andrich and Raymond Henn in Basel. Parallel to this she attended courses given by Kurt Widmer, Andreas Scholl and Hanno Müller-Brachmann amongst others, and the Opera Course at Basel Academy of Music.
Further studies followed under the tutelage of Marianne Schuppe. With regular performances Christine Simolka maintains a broad repertoire, which in addition to lieder from the Baroque and classic periods, also highlights the works of Schubert. More recently she has developed an interest for contemporary music by such composers as Holliger, Henze and Wohlhauser. Christine Simolka also improvises in various styles including jazz, klezmer, blues, rock and free-improvisation. She is a member of the 'lied-duo Christine Simolka, Sopran, und René Wohlhauser, Klavier' and the ensemble 'Polysono'.
lieder from the Baroque, Classical (Mozart), Romantic (Schubert, Schumann) periods and also from the turn of the century (Mahler), works with soprano from the modern period (including Berio, Ferneyhough, Holliger, Henze, Wohlhauser), improvisation in jazz, klezmer and blues, free- improvisation.
