In addition to her clerical activities Madeleine Baer also attended courses at Zurich Conservatory. From 1952 until 1953 she was in the concert training class of Fernando Carpi in Geneva and subsequently studied singing under P. Hentke and Tino Patiera at the 'Akadamie Opernschule Wien' (Viennese School of Opera) from 1953 until 1955, she went on to vocal training in Geneva under Maria Carpi from 1965 until 1975. She made her debut in a chamber opera in Vienna, 1955. Thereafter she appeared at the Basel City Theatre in 1957 and at Zurich Opera House from 1960 until 1969 playing the roles of Pamina in the Zauberflöte, Micaela in Carmen and Ännchin in Freischutz amongst others.
In addition to teaching singing in diverse schools in Zurich and Baden she also performed song recitals at home and abroad, Mass and oratorios. Since 1971 she has been the proprietor of her own singing school and organiser of student concerts.
In 1952 she received an accolade at the Concours International in Geneva, first prize awarded by the 'Gesellschaft für Musikfreunde', Vienna in 1954, and first prize at the Concours International de Chant in Verviers and Belgium in 1957.
