Biography
* 05. 01. 1929.

Peter-Lukas Graf was born in Zürich. He studied flute under the tutelage of André Jaunet (Zurich), Marcel Moyse and Roger Cortet (Paris).
He was awarded first prize as a flutist and received his diploma for conducting from the 'Conservatoire Nationale de Paris'. During the three years following he studied conducting in Munich. Graf won first prize at the International Music Contest of the ARD in Munich and the Bablock Prize of the H. Cohen International Music Award in London.
The multi-talented musician was appointed the youngest principal flutist with the Winterthur Symphony Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra with additional conducting responsibilities which led to a period of full time opera and symphonic conducting.
At the age of 21 Graf's recording of the Ibert Flute Concerto earned him immediate and overwhelming international recognition. Since then he has toured internationally (he is a regular guest at international music festivals) and recorded profusely for television and radio.
He has been a professor at the Basel Academy of Music since 1973 and heads international master classes.
Graf received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2005 from the American National Flute Association and, in the same year, the 'premio alla Carriera' 2005 of the FALAUT-Academy (Italy). Peter-Lukas Graf was conferred the doctor honoris causa by the Academy of Music Cracow.
