REGINA IRMAN Biografie Komposition

Geboren 1957 in Winterthur/Schweiz und dort aufgewachsen. 1976 Matura. Zwei Instrumentalstudien am Konservatorium Winterthur: Gitarre (Lehrdiplom 1982) und Schlagzeug (Konzertdiplom mit Auszeichnung 1995).

Erste Stücke entstanden während dem Gitarrenstudium, danach intensive Beschäftigung mit Komposition, was zur zentralen Tätigkeit wurde. Spezielles Interesse an Musiktheater, experimentellen Spielsituationen, Verarbeitung von Fremdmaterialien, Mikrotonalität und strengen Ordnungssystemen, die oft in Verbindung mit Sprache stehen. In neueren Arbeiten beschäftigt sich Irman vermehrt mit den Mitteln elektronischer Musik.

Seit 1983 zahlreiche Kompositionsaufträge (Solostücke, Kammermusik, Chorwerke, Theatermusik, Opern), unter anderem von Stadt und Kanton Zürich, der Stadt Winterthur, der Kulturstiftung Pro Helvetia, dem 5. Schweizerischen Frauenkongress Bern, dem Schweizerischen Jugendmusikwettbewerb und verschiedenen Ensembles. Diverse Stipendien und Förderbeiträge; 2000 Werkjahr der Stadt Zürich, 2007 einjähriges Atelier-Stipendium in London der Landis&Gyr-Stiftung, 2018 Kunstpreis Zollikon (Hauptpreis in der Sparte Komposition).

Die Werke sind durch zahlreiche Radio-Mitschnitte dokumentiert. Eine Portrait-CD der Grammont-Stiftung (Arbeitsgemeinschaft zur Förderung schweizerischer Musik) mit einem Querschnitt durch das Gesamtwerk erschien im August 2001.

Aufführungen in der Schweiz, Deutschland, Italien, Frankreich, Spanien und der Ukraine.

Arbeitet als freischaffende Komponistin und Schlagzeugerin. Von 2003 bis 2020 war sie Dozentin an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Thurgau.



REGINA IRMAN Biografie Schlagzeug

Regina Irman, geboren 1957, studierte am Konservatorium Winterthur zunächst Gitarre und begann danach Schlagzeug zu spielen. Die Begeisterung für das klassische Perkussions-Instrumentarium führte zu einem weiteren Studium, das 1995 mit einem Konzertdiplom mit Auszeichnung seinen Abschluss fand.
Der zeitgenössischen experimentellen Musik gilt ein zentrales Interesse. So gelangten in konzeptuell gestalteten Programmen verschiedenste Ensemble- und Solowerke zur Aufführung, darunter mehrere Uraufführungen.

Regina Irman spielt auch eigene Stücke, u.a. "Ein Trauermarsch" und "Tabellen" (nach Texten von Adolf Wölfli), die Theatermusik "Heimweh macht unfruchtbar" und das Musik-Tanz-Theater "Lambranzis curieuse Tantz-Schul".
Das Repertoire umfasst Werke von Antoine Beuger, John Cage, Elliott Carter, Morton Feldman, Jürg Frey, Vinko Globokar, Hans Werner Henze, Nicolaus A. Huber, Dieter Jordi, Mauricio Kagel, Urs Peter Schneider, Kunsu Shim, Peter Streiff, James Tenney, Martin Wehrli, Christian Wolff, Iannis Xenakis, Walter Zimmermann.

Seit einigen Jahren beschäftigt sich Regina Irman mit historischer Perkussion. Sie bildete sich weiter in Kursen auf Kloster Michaelstein/D und erhielt Unterricht in Barock-Pauken bei Charles Fullbrook, London.
Zu ihrem Instrumentarium gehören Trommeln, Nakers, Kastagnetten, Pitos, Fingerzimbeln und Set Ups aus Kleinperkussion. In Kammermusikprogrammen spielt sie vorwiegend selber gesetzte Stimmen oder Improvisationen zu Renaissance- und Barockmusik. Sie begleitet sich auch bei ihren Auftritten als Barock-Tänzerin.

Percussion set-up to include: Three pans, zinc bowl, water ladle, water gong, pedal timpani, Basel drum, military snare, piccolo snare, two wood-felt sets, ten cow bells, two tam tams, Peking opera gong, six cymbals, kazoo, vibraslap. The illogical and anti-perspectivist text, and a few Wölfli-like somisation fragments are formed and set to music in individual strata. These strata are laid one on top of the other in a collage, betraying Wolfli's frequent tendency towards queer folklorism. The timpani are the central and recurrent element throughout. Commissioned by the festival 'Tage für Neue Musik Zürich'.

This piece is based on a phonetic analysis of the voice of Achmatowa as she reads one of her own texts, and it is the musical rather than the semantic elements of Achmatowa's recitation that have been used. A cantus firmus-like line (male voices) defines the melody of her speech in a slow motion tempo. The six choir groups run "homophonically" and are a vertically "harmonious" splitting of the cantus firmus.
