Biography

Jürg Hanselmann received his first piano instruction at the Vaduz School of Music in Lichtenstein. He later studied under the tutelage of Albert Schneeberger and Kristina Steinegger at Berne conservatory where he received a soloists diploma with distinction. Further studies led him to London and the Hungarian pianist Louis Kentner and to the Russian pianist Irina Edelstein, to Frankfurt am Main and the Beaux Arts Trio and to Mieczyslaw Horszowski. The Hungarian composer Sandor Veress taught Jürg Hanselmann for a number of years in the subjects of composition and musical analysis. Jürg Hanselmann is the prize winner of the Eduard Tschumi Prize Berne 1980, the prize of the Anniversary Foundation of the 'Schweizerischen Volksbank' 1980, The Migros Competition Zurich 1983, the rotary Prize of Lichtenstein 1987, the Culture Prize of the International Lake Constance Conference 1991 Munich, and the Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Prize Vaduz 2005.
Amongst the now 21 CD productions which feature his performances are the internationally observed complete works for piano by Josef Rheinberger on 11 CDs, and the most recent CD 'Die Eisenbahn in der Klaviermusik', which has caused a sensation amongst the press since its release.
Jürg Hanselmann performs together with his wife Sandra and has already composed a number of works for piano duo including the 'Elemente für 2 Klaviere', 'Jugendalbum', 'Dies Irae Variationen für zwei Klaviere und Orchester' and 'Tabulatura für zwei Klaviere und Schlagwerk'.
