Biography
* 12. 04. 1973.

Now a resident of Lucerne, the composer and cellist Felix Schüeli was born in Shaffhausen and grew up in Rapperswil on the see of Zurich. His musical education began as a child with instruction in piano and cello at the music school and later at college. During this time he was also engaged as electric bassist, occupied with jazz and played in various pop and rock bands.
Although he showed an interest in composing at an early age (writing the piece 'Katzenromanze' for a youth orchestra) it was not until twelve years later that he became occupied again with the subject. His compositions have received national and international awards including first prize at a competition for composition in Glasgow (Dinah Wolfe Memorial Award 2002), Vienna (within the Viennese summer Seminars for New Music 2002) and Basel (International competition for composition and arrangement 2000). He also received a financial award from the city and canton of Lucerne (2001).
Felix Schüeli studied school music at the 'Musikhochschule Luzern' (Lucerne School of Music), with choir conductiing, violoncello and composition as his main subjects. He also studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow and attended master classes given by Heinz Holliger and Hanspeter Kyburz and others.

Romantic poems, which have already served as textual templates for the great lieder composers (Schumann, Brahms, Strauss, Mahler), are set anew to music. The musical language of the lieder can be classified as being somewhere between the romantic lied and commercial (pop) song, where the influence of new music is apparent.
