Immense musical intensity, perfection as a matter of course and an astute interest in the stylistic loyalty to a work are the distinguishing marks of the Carmina Quartett, established 1984 in Switzerland. Spectacular competition success at an early stage resulted in international press headlines and smoothed the way to the world's most renowned concert podiums. The Financial Times ranks the Carmina Quartett amongst the leading string quartets of our time.
The Amadeus Quartet, the La Salle Quartet, Sandor Végh and Nikolaus Harnoncourt are amongst the mentors of the quartet. In particular, the collaboration with these eminent personalities facilitated an understanding of the historical playing techniques that, since then, have undogmatically and sanguinely moulded the interpretations of the Carmina Quartett. In addition to a considerable quartet repertoire, including rareties from all eras, the Carmina Quartet also cultivate collaborations with such eminent artists as Mitsuko Uchida, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Emanuel Pahud, Truls Mork, Sabine Meyer, Wolfgang Meyer, Antonio Meneses, Veronika Hagen, Olaf Bär and Wolfgang Holzmair.
All the CD recordings which have, to date, been published by Denon have sparked unanimous admiration from the public and critics alike. They have also been considered for such renowned awards as the Gramophone Award, Diapason d'Or, Prix Choc, Prize of the German Record Critics, and even a Grammy Award nomination.
In its position as the Quartet in Residence at the School of Music Zurich/Winterthur, the Carmina Quartett is able to impart its comprehensive experience and distinctive, independent musicality to the next generation of musicians.Members:
