Biography
Raised in Chur, after completing his undergraduate studies the cellist Luzius Gartmann studied under André Navarra at the Vienna School of Music where he completed his concert exams. Further studies enabled him to form associations with Claude Starck and Boris Pergamenschikow, as well as Sandor Vegh and the Alban Berg Quartet. He has been a member of the Zurich Opera House Orchestra since 1986.
His intensive engagements, above all in the areas of chamber music, led him in various formations (Orion Trio, Avalon, Chamäleon Ensemble) to established festivals and many centres of culture in Paris, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Florence, Palermo, Istanbul, Warsaw, Prague, Odessa, and Kiev. A number of tours in Japan and numerous radio and CD recordings testify to his versatility.
