* 12. 09. 1947.
- Born in Schwanden, canton Glarus, Switzerland
- Receives his first musical education from his father
- Member of his local brass instrument music society
- Lead trumpeter with a jazz bigband
- At the age of 17 he receives tuition in horn from Günther Schlund in Zurich
1967 - Military training school
1969 - Enters the Conservatory of Zurich in the class of Werner Speth
1970/71 - Takes part in the International Orchestra Meeting in St.Moritz and Lausanne, solo hornist in the International Orchestra Choice (con. Walter Süsskind)
1971 - First ensemble LP recording with American avantgarde music (Cage, Brown, Feldman) with EMI in Cologne
1971 - Chosen as solo hornist for the 'Städtisches Orchester St.Gallen' (principal conductor: Charles Dutoit)
Since 1975 - Solo hornist with the 'Tonhalleorchester Zürich' as successor to his teacher Werner Speth - performed, during this time, under such conductors as Rudolf Kempe, Sergiu Celibidache, Karl Böhm, Eugene Ormandy, Lovro von Matacic, Kirill Kondraschin, Lorin Maazel' Bernard Haitink, Georg Solti and many others
- Tours in Europe, North and South America, China and Japan.
Jacob Hefti has a broad solo repertoire ranging from Baroque to through to Modern, he is also occupied with the historical performance practice of the natural horn. He has world-premiered works dedicated to him by Joseph Haselbach, Eric Gaudibert, René Wohlhauser, Martin Derungs, Gion Antoni Derungs, Thüring Bräm and others.

Tonhalleorchester Zürich, Orchestra della RSI, Städtisches Orchester St.Gallen, Stadtorchester Winterthur, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Zürcher Kammerorchester. Camerata Zürich, Festival Strings Lucerne and others at festivals in Zurich, Lucerne, Meiringen, Interlaken etc.
1983 until 1990 - Member of the 'Stalder Quintetts'
- Member of the ensemble 'La Gran Partita', a wind orchestra from Zurich
- Member of 'Lauwiser Dorfmusik', a folk music formation primarily dedicated to the performance of music by Ferdinand Lötscher (1842-1904)
Since 1983 - Teacher for horn, natural horn and chamber music at the conservatory in Lucerne, professor since 2002
