Biography

A tenor born in Basel, Felix Rienth received his first musical tuition as a member of the Knabenkantorei Basel. He studied in Basel under the tuition of Heidi Wölnerhanssen et al and at the Swiss Opera Studio at the Hochschule der Künste Bern. He enjoys a busy international concert calendar in the whole of Europe.

The internationally active Tenor from Basel who debuted at the Basel Theatre under Armin Jordan as the "first boy" in Mozart's "Magic Flute" initially received his vocal training as a member of the Knabenkantorei Basel. He completed his singing studies with an opera diploma from the Swiss Opera Studio at the Hochschule der Künste Bern after studying under the tuition of Heidi Wölnerhanssen in Basel. Felix Rienth gave an aria concert with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra after winning Lucerne's "Foundation for Young Music Talent". He has performed as a tenor at numerous European festivals including in Ambronay, Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Gent, Granada, Peñíscola etc and worked with Eduardo López Banzo and Gabriel Garrido amongst others. In his capacity as an oratorio singer, Rienth as been invited to perform at the Concert hall of the Cologne Philharmonic, in the Salzburg Mozarteum-Saal, the Stefanien Hall in Graz, to Munich, Karlsruhe, Linz the most important concert houses of Switzerland including the Victoria-Hall in Geneva, the Tonhalle in Zurich and the Basler Musiksaal. His repertoire contains works such Monteverdi's "Marienvesper", Bach's "Johannespassion", Händel's "Messias", Mozart's "Requiem", Haydn's "Schöpfung", Mendelssohn's "Elias", "Paulus" and "Lobgesang", Schumann's "Paradies und Peri" and " Des Sängers Fluch", Rossini's "Stabat mater", Dvorak's "Requiem" and many more. Felix Rienth has been accompanied by the following orchestras: Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Mozarteum-Orchester Salzburg, basel sinfonietta, Orchestre de chambre de Genève, Sinfonietta Lausanne, Kammerorchester Basel, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Württembergische Philharmonie and the Baroque orchestras Capriccio Basel, La Banda Munich, Capella Leopoldina Graz, Les cornets noirs, and Ensemble Fontegara Madrid etc. His work is documented by the recordings he has made for Swiss Radio DRS, Radio Suisse Romande, ORF, Belgian, Portugese and Bavarian radio and CD recordings with the main focus on old music for K617, Symphonia, Ricercar, OehmsClassics and Enchiriadis, reaping in prizes such as the French "diapason d'or" or CD of the year in Spain. His recordings with the solo cantatas of the Catalanian Francesc Valls received the "Prelude Classical Music Award" for best baroque CD of 2007. He recorded the solo cantatas of the Handel contemporary J.C. Pepusch, published under the Enchiriadis label in 2008.
Felix Rienth has additionally sung numerous world premieres: "Psalm" by Rudolf Jungwirth (Linz, 2004), "Schwarzer Mozart", opera by Andreas Pflüger (Basel, 2006), "Dante" by Helena Winkelmann (Basel, 2007), and the solo cantata "Jeder Ton ist wie ein Stern" by Viktor Fortin (Lausanne, 2008, dedicated to Felix Rienth).
Felix Rienth is married to the flutist Muriel Rochat Rienth (studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis) and lives with his family in Basel.
