Biographie

Born in Lausanne but originating from Daillens in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.
Graduated in law in 1964 from the University of Lausanne.
Began playing the piano at the age of eight and studied organ at the Conservatoire de Fribourg as well as double bass and theory at the Conservatoire de Lausanne.
A student of GMD Prof. Heinz Dressel (orchestral conducting) and Krzysztof Penderecki (theory) at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.
Diploma as conductor (1968).
Prize-winner at the 1970 competition for conducting organised by the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.

Main commitments to opera:
Aix-la-Chapelle (1st chief and musical director ad interim 1981-1984).
Wuppertal (1st chief and musical director ad interim 1985-1988).
Osnabrück (musical director 1988-1998).
Opera productions as guest conductor in Bordeaux, Catania, Dortmund, Gand, Leipzig, Stockholm.
Regular guest of leading orchestras in Switzerland (Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Bern Symphony Orchestra , Orchestre de la Suisse Romande) and concerts at the head of numerous formations in Europe, the U.S. and Taiwan.
World premières on stage and in concerts of several works by various composers including Sylvano Bussotti, Luca Francesconi, Krzysztof Meyer.
Program and casting director at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (1998-2007).
Deputy Director of the Septembre Musical Montreux Vevey (2007-2012).
Head of artistic planning at the Grand Theatre in Geneva (2009-2012).
Artistic advisor ad interim for the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (1 September 2012 - 28 February 2013).
Curator of the exhibition held in 2012 at the Château de Chillon on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of composer and conductor Igor Markevitch
Participation in various competition juries.
Radio broadcasts and articles in various programs, newspapers and magazines.
