Following completion of his studies in German literature and language and musicology at the University of Heidelberg, Matthias Heep studied composition, music theory and choral conducting under the tutelage of Detlev Müller-Siemens, Rudolf Kelterborn and Hans-Martin Linde.
As a teacher of musical theory, Heep lectured for the 'Schweizerischen Musikpädagogischen Verband SMPV and conducted several large choirs (University of Bern, Winterthur Theatre Choir etc.). He also worked as a freelance composer.
Matthias Heep has written music covering almost all genres and for almost all instrumental groups. Innovative musical theatre has been the focus of his work for the last ten years.
