Urs Koenig studied piano under the tutelage of Suzanne Eggli at the Berne School of Music, under Klaus Linder in Basel, Harry Datyner in Geneva and Guido Agosti in Perugia. He became known for his recitals on Radio DRS. He has worked with such conductors as F. Pantillon, A. Apostolou and many others besides. Urs Koenig cultivates his chamber music and soloist concert activities with performances at home and abroad. He is the chamber musical partner of Claude Starck, cello, Adelina Oprean, violin and Kurt Andreas Finger, flute. Urs Koenig has been teaching at the cantonal school in Solothurn since 1990. He is the founder and artistic director of the Pfarrschüür Konzerte Messen. 1996 saw the publication of his CD with works by Franz Schubert.
