Born in Lucerne; teacher's Seminar; 10 years of violin and guitar training.

1963 until 1966 in Santiago de Chile with, amongst others, concert tours for the Universidad de Chile's project 'Extensión musical', with an ensemble and with the flutist Juan Bravo.
1967 back in Basel: solo appearances with the programme 'Musique intime pour guitare' at many small theatres in Switzerland and neighbouring countries. 25 years of feature-length concerts together with Hansheinz Schneeberger and the programmes 'Paganini violon et guitare' and 'Musique intime pour violon et guitare' followed in Europe and, in 1986, the then Soviet Union (concerts for the GOS in Leningrad, Vilnius, Riga, Odessa and Moscow).
Wangler was also renowned for his interpretations of contemporary works with guitar including as the soloist in Elliott Carter's 'Syringa' during the Swiss premiere with the Collegium Musicum at the Tonhalle Zurich and with Fortner's 'Perlimplin' and M. de Falla's 'La vida breve' at the Basel Theatre.
1991 – soloist at the Zurich 'Junifestwochen' with the programme 'James Joyce/John Cage' (20 performances 'James Joyce Tram Tour')

The press details Wangler's friendship with Salvador Dalì who, following several house concerts, painted his guitar making it fit for the museum (1968-70).
He became even more well-known for the TV guitar course 'Sechs Saiten - zehn Finger' and the textbook bearing the same name (Bärenreiter Publishers).
