Biography

Born in Glarus (Switzerland), Matina Joos received her teacher and concert diplomas with distinction from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Zurich after studying the recorder under the tutelage of Matthias Weilenmann and Kees Boeke. She attended master courses and performed in concerts across Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Russia), North Africa (Morocco), South America (Brazil) and in the Caribbean (Cuba) as a soloist and as a member of the ensembles Trio O`Henry, RAYUELA and concerto extra vergine. She has made recordings for CD and radio and won various international competitions with the Trio O`Henry (Calw International Recorder Competition (Germany), Kiwanis Chamber Music Prize Zurich, Swiss Orpheus Promotions Prize, Migros Chamber Music Prize and the International Festival for Early Music on Historic Instruments 'Premio Bonporti' in Rovereto/Italy).
In addition to her concert activities, Martina Joos currently studies musicology at the University of Zurich, teaches Jazz and classical music at Zurich Conservatory, gives courses on early music, and works freelance for Swiss Radio DRS2 and the Schweizer Musikzeitung. She is the co-president of the Forums Alte Musik Zürich.
