Biography
* 08. 05. 1940.

Gertrud Schneider was raised in Brügg and Biel (Switzerland). The pianists Sava Savoff, Paul Baumgartner, Franz Josef Hirt, Yvonne Lefébure and the music critic Erwin Hochuli were her teachers.
Schneider collaborates continually with contemporary composers performing world-premieres of works by György Kurtág, Roland Moser, Marek Kopelent, James Tenney to name but a few. She also plays new and old music in concert and can be heard on numerous recordings (recordings for radio and on the DGG/Polygram, Jecklin, hatArt, multisonic labels) in communicative programmes intended to wake the audience's interest in unfamiliar music.
Over the last twenty years Gertrud Schneider has, in collaboration with the pianist Tomas Bächli (Berlin), developed a broad repertoire for two pianos tuned a quarter tone apart.
Solo and together with others she imparts repeatedly music for children. She has received the Zurich Radio Prize for the Best Radio Broadcast of the Year, the culture prize awarded by the city of Biel, the work prize awarded by the canton of Solothurn, the BAT Prize for the Interpretation of Quarter Tone Piano Music together with Tomas Bächli and a substantial music prize awarded by the canton of Bern.
