Thomas Fortmann comes from Berne. He wrote an international pop hit at the age of sixteen and followed with more than 100 titles in 27 countries. Interpreters of his works include Udo Lindenberg, Alexis Korner, Love Generation, Jürgen Drews, Su Kramer, Demon Thor, Toni Vescoli et al.
He abandoned his rock carrier after 10 years, moved to Tessin where he withdrew into isolation and studied composition, music theory and instrumentation. He went on to compose numerous chamber works, an oratorio (Oratorio Francescano), two symphonies ("Pythagoras" and "Aion"), a requiem ("Requiem für ein ungeborenes Kind") and three musical works for stage ("Der Hahn und das Kreuz", "Sommerfrau und Winterwolf" and "Collodis Pinocchio") with the help of stipends and commissions from the Schweizer Bundesamt für Kulturpflege, Zurich Opera House, canton Tessin, Burgergemeinde Bern, Open Opera St.Gallen, Zurich City, EU Kaleidoskope Project, Mozart Festival Rovereto, Grosseto City and others.
Tommy moved to Toscana with his family in the mid eighties, where, in addition to his compositional activities, he became the co-founder of the Accademia Amiata and did a several year stint as the director of the 'Toscana delle Culture' festival.
