Stephan Lauffer was born and lives in Winterthur. He trained as a primary school teacher and was engaged in this profession for several years in Oberwinterthur and Fällanden. He recieved violin and viola lessons at the music school in Winterthur, educated to 'Schulmusik I' level at the conservatory in Zurich and attended further courses in composition under David Angel at the conservatory in Schaffhausen. He trained as a choirmaster (under Karl Scheuber, Jürg Rütti and Eva Rüegg et al.), as an orchestral conductor (under Urs Schneider), and as a theatre pedagogue at Zurich University of the Arts. Lauffer is the conductor of several choirs (Catholic Church Choir Dübendorf, Reformed Church Choir Wangen-Brüttisellen, the children's choir "animato" Dübendorf), founder and director of "Theaterchischte Välte" (children's musical theatre in Winterthur), has created the musical for several open-air theatre productions and is the director of various theatre projects (partly with music).
His compositions usually focus on chamber music and works for choir. He has also composed several successful musical plays for children's choir and open-air theatre etc.
The ease with which the music can be performed (even by dedicated amateurs) is of key importance.
