Following studies in chemistry (doctorate) and pedagogy (licentiate), which were interrupted by the obtainment of a diploma in orchestral conducting from Geneva Conservatory, I assigned myself to musicology (licentiate then doctorate at the University of Berne) attracted by the musical language of Eastern Europe, particularly the development of the very first tonal interaction of Gregorian melodies through to their clear emergence in the music of Webern. Within this whole I conducted research paying particular attention to the categories of rhythm and the relationship between word and tone. My preferences invariably head toward those parameters that enable communication with the aid of music. Following this ideal throughout I dedicated myself to teaching and research, both at the University of Berne (1970-1993) and Lausanne Conservatory (1974-1984).
