Biography

Heinrich Gurtner was born in Wattenwil. After attending the teacher's seminar he made studies in music under the tutelage of Kurt Wolfgang Senn (organ) and Pierre Souvairan (piano) in Bern. Further studies led him to Paris with Maurice Duruflé and Den Haag with Adriaan Engels.
1949 until 1966 - Organist at St. Peters in Bern
1966 until 1989 - Organist at Bern Minster, teaching activities at the conservatory in Bern, concerts in Europe and North America
Most important CDs: Bach, 6 Trio Sonatas; Mendelssohn, Organ Works
1974 - Music prize offered by the city of Bern.
Following his retirement as Minster Organist Heinrich Gurtner continued his concert activities until 2000.
