Biography

Born in Lenzburg, Peter Mieg was instructed there in piano and theory under C.A. Richter.
1927 - Completion of his undergraduate education in Aarau and commencement of his studies in Zurich with art history, archaeology, German literature, and music history as his subjects. He was instructed in piano under Hans Münch in Asel, and later under Emil Frey in Zurich. He became acquainted with Marcel Prousts 'A la recherche du temps perdu'. It was a time of lasting impressions from literary influences.
1930 - Spent the summer semester in Paris where he received deep, lasting impressions for his life and work from the French mentality, intellectuality, architecture and music.
1933 - He wrote his dissertation in Zurich 'Morgenthaler, Moilliet, Epper – Studien zur modernen Aquarellmalerei in der Schweiz'. (Morgenthaler, Moilliet, Epper – a study of modern watercolour in Switzerland).
1933 until 1939 - Art, literature and music journalist for Swiss newspapers. He became acquainted with Paul Sacher and the composers Bartok, Strawinsky, Honegger and Martinu.
1934 - Began a friendship with the painter Marguerite Amman and the painter Franz Max Herzog.
1938 - Relocated to Lenzburg.
1939 until 1945 - Active as Adlat of the 'Lenzburger Stadtschreibers'. After 1945 he continued as a reporter for several Swiss newspapers and periodicals. He travelled profusely abroad as a correspondent for various music festivals and published scientific articles. He was also befriended with the Austrian composer Gottfried von Einem. He began collaboration with the Zurich conductor Edmond de Stoutz. After 1950 there was a large increase in his rather more privately cultivated compositional activities and a definitive marked ness of his own characteristic style.
1961 - First large exhibition as a painter at the 'Galerie Rathausgasse' in Lenzburg, which led to subsequent regular exhibitions.
1964 - Formed a friendship with the Russian composer Alexander Tscherepnin.
1967 - Publication of the 'Lenzburger Poetik oder Imaginäre Rede auf die Dichtkunst in und um Lenzburg' volumes.
1978 - Publication of the three absurd tales 'Hannibals später Sport'. His memoirs 'Laterna magica' were published on his 80 Birthday.
