Biography
* 04. 11. 1941.

Alfred Schweizer was born in Sevelen, Switzerland. On completing his undergraduate studies Schweizer went on to study music and linguistics at the University of Bern and practical music instruction at the Bern Conservatory.
From 1967 until 1972 he was instructed in composition at the 'Musikakademie Basel' (Basel Academy of Music) and participated in various courses for improvisation. In 1986/7 he studied at the Swiss Centre for Computer Music. He was Prize winner at the international competition for composition 'Gino Marinuzzi' in Sanremo Italy (1977) with the orchestral piece Nr. 1 '... cielo azzurro...'. In the same year he received a financial award from the Pro Arte foundation and in 1995 another financial award from the music commission of canton Bern. In 2001 he was awarded the culture prize of the city of Biel.
Alfred Schweizer teaches composition at the 'Musikhochschule Biel' (Biel School of Music). He distributes the music of Swiss modern composers under the CD label 'classic 2000'.
