Biography

Esther Flückiger was educated at Bern Conservatory under Annette Weisbrod and Karl Engel, in Salzburg under Sergio Perticaroli, in Rome under Carlo Bruno and in New York under György Sandor.
She performs at home and abroad as a soloist and in various chamber music ensembles as well as in groups of other musical styles. She has appeared at countless festivals for traditional and contemporary music and toured in America, Russia and East Asia.
Flückiger is active as a composer and performer in concerts, multi media projects and musical theatre; she has produced works for piano solo, piano and voice, ensembles with and without voice and music for theatre, film and the homepage of the 'Centro Culturale Svizzero (Pro Helvetia) di Milano'.
Her radio and CD recordings include:
1992 'Novecento' first solo CD performing works by Frank Martin and Bohuslav Martinu (Nuova Era Mailand).
1996 'Al Volo' second solo CD performing works by contemporary Italian and Swiss composers (Pentaphon Rome).
1998 'Al valico dei secoli' a CD with the Swiss Jazz formation Roots of Communication (Esperia Rom).
2000 'Piangere la pietra' a CD in cooperation with the saxophonist Massimo Mazzoni (Pentaphon Rom).
2002 'Le musiche delle donne nel duemila' a CD of the Ensemble Suonodonne Italia (M.A.P Mailand).
CDs of recordings with various other ensembles exist.
She has worked with renowned musicians and artists such as Massimo Mazzoni (saxophonist), Rose Marie Soncini (flutist), Gianluca Ruggeri (percussionist), Lucas Niggli (percussionist), Felix Humm (visual communication), Fabrizio Crisafulli (director), Susana Talayero (painter) etc., and often works in close cooperation with other composers.
Flückiger founded the Associazione Suonodonne, an association concerned with the propagation of female music. In 1995 she organised the festival 'Fra Nord e Sud' (music by composers from Switzerland and Italy) in Rome, Bern and Milan in 1997, 1992 and 2000.
In 1997 she published for the first time a catalogue of her female music archive.
