The Collegium Musicum St. Gallen consists of 15-25 musicians and was founded by its present director Mario Schwarz in 1982. In addition to the performance of standard works it is also the aim of the orchestra to perform mostly new and unknown works. It is so that the orchestra has compiled a list of more than 50 world premiere and first performances, some of which have been broadcast by Radio DRS, the 'Hessischen Rundfunk', ORF and the 'Südwestfunk Baden-Baden'.
Various composers have written works for the orchestra including Gion Antoni Derungs, Caspar Diethelm, Paul Huber, Ernst Pfiffner, Cesar Bresgen and Jiri Laburda.
The orchestra performs regularly at the International Lake Constance Festival (Bodenseefestival) and works together regularly with the Oberthurgau Chamber Choir and the Collegium Cantorum. A society with ca. 190 members and donors sees to the financing and implementation of the projects.
