Christian Spitzenstaetter was born in Wörgl (Austria) in 1994. At the age of five, he started learning the clarinet with Sepp Rangger at the Landesmusikschule Wörgl. After pre-studies with Walter Seebacher at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium Innsbruck, he went on to Ernesto Molinari at the Bern University of the Arts in the fall of 2013 for his regular studies ??" first in clarinet, later in bass clarinet. There, in 2020, he was able to complete his final stage of studies with distinction. His path as a performer leads him from "classical" solo and chamber music to jazz and especially to contemporary, improvised, and conceptual music. Among other things, he pays special attention to staged and performative interpretation, as well as trans- and interdisciplinary projects.

In 2014 Spitzenstaetter founded the Orchester KOMP.ART, which consists of music student friends from various European countries. As a conductor, he has also performed with Camerata Salzburg, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg and Brandenburger Symphoniker, among others.

His first music pieces were written at the age of nine. He likes to name his friend and teacher Ralph Schutti as his composition mentor. In the meantime, he has been able to create pieces commissioned by Isabel Karajan, Lorenz Raab, Jeunesse Österreich, Academia Vocalis and the Tiroler Festspiele Erl. His first major opera "STILLHANG" was awarded the Austrian Music Theater Prize in the category "Best Premiere/First Performance" in August 2020. Since 2023, some of his works have been published by Universal Edition.

In December 2020, Christian Spitzenstaetter received the "Tschumi Prize" for the best degree in the Master of Arts in Specialized Music Performance | Soloist at the Bern University of the Arts. In September 2022, he was awarded the Culture Prize 2020 of the city of Wörgl in the category of music, postponed due to corona. Since March 2021 Christian works as an assistant to the head of the study program MA Specialized Music Performance at the Bern University of the Arts. Since 2022 he is a member of the Compagnie Merce & John and since June 2023, he is the new president of the Swiss Music Edition SME.
