Biography

- Born in Winterthur
1961 until 1965 - Studied at Zurich conservatory with André Jaunet (flute) and later with Rudolf Kelterborn (composition) after completing training as a bookseller
1967 until 1971 - Solo flutist with the St Gallen Municipal Orchestra
1972 until 1990 - Solo flutist with the Musikkollegium Winterthur
1972 until 2003 - Lecturer at Winterthur Conservatory and the Hochschule Musik und Theater Zürich
- Various activities as a soloist and chamber musician (mostly together with his wife Brigitta Steinbrecher), as a music pedagogue, programme designer and organiser of various cultural events including museum concerts, concert series musica riservata, and an international competition for composition.
- Broad repertoire, numerous world premieres and commissioned compositions
- Collaboration with composers
- Radio and TV and CD recordings
- Various awards including Carl Heinrich Ernst Art Prize and the Cultural Prize of the City of Winterthur
2005 - Retired from the active music scene
