The Zürcher VokalQuartett was formed on the occasion of a chamber music competition run by Migros, Zurich.
The winners were engaged for a Swiss tour accompanied on the piano by renowned pianist Irwin Cage. Now, following many years of artistic activity with performances in the Tonhalle Zürich, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Zurich concert cycle "Freunde des Liedes", at the Festival "Guido d'Arezzo" in Arezzo (Italy) and many more, the advisory counselling of Elizabeth Schwarzkopf proved to be the most fruitful. In 2000 the singers received the CD Prize offered by the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia; following the Swiss-tour CD this resulted in the second recording with the MGB label (Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund); both were highly praised by the press. The aim of the Zürcher VokalQuartett is to bring the scarcely performed treasures of 2-4 part songs from the classical, romantic and modern eras to the ears of a broader audience. The four singers additionally perform as a solo quartet in oratorios and church concerts.
