Biografia
* 01. 08. 1933, † 18. 02. 2010.

Margaret Engeler was a teacher in Widnau / Heerbrugg and Zurich. In 1958 she emigrated to America with her husband where, after attending University courses, she formed a career for herself as a painter with single and group exhibitions. After returning to Switzerland in 1972 with her husband and two children she began to study musicology, folklore and ethnomusicology. She received her doctorate in 1984 after publishing her dissertation on the subject of the string music of Appenzell. Her interests were considered as lying in the area of conflict between music, musicians and the cultivation of music. In addition to her activities in publishing folk music she also turned to the classic music scene, she acquired substantiated knowledge of the music scene of Zurich by publishing the letters written to Volkmar Andreae (1986) and a monograph on the Zurich concert scene (1990). With the book 'Gehobene Unterhaltungsmusik.-Vom Radio Unterhaltungsorchester Cedric Dumonts bis heute. Musikethnologische aspekte' (sophisticated light music - from Cedric Dumont's radio light orchestra until the present, ethnomusicological aspects) published by Krebs Verlag, Basel in 1993 she expanded her analysis to include light music. Margaret Engeler also published various articles concerning folkloristic studies of folks-music from Appenzell in folklore magazines and daily newspapers. 1995 saw the publication of an extended ethnomusicological introduction for the Festspiel-Kunstaustellung Bregenz on the subject of Franz Rederer, who sketched and painted famous musicians, including Bartok and Schönberg.
