Hansheinz Schneeberger was born 1926 in Bern, Switzerland. He has been playing the violin since the age of six. He studied under Walter Kägi at the conservatory in Bern until his graduation in 1944, subsequently studying under Carl Flesch in Lucerne and Boris Kamensky in Paris.
Following his duties as a teacher at the conservatories in Biel and Bern he performed numerous concerts with his own string quartet. From 1958 until 1961 he was principal concertmaster with the NDR Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg. In 1961 he headed a master class at the Basel Academy of Music.
Hansheinz Schneeberger is active worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician; he performed under the direction of Ernest Ansermet in Vienna, Warsaw, Stanford and Montreal (world exhibition). In 1965 he performed together with Horszowsky and Casals during the Prades Festival Week. In 1984 he headed master classes and performed concerts in Kusalsu (Japan), participated in the Isang Yun Festival in Korea, and one year later toured through the former Soviet Union with the guitarist Rudolf Wangler. From 1988 until 1990 he worked at the annual Lockenhaus Festival and in 1990, 1992 and 1994 at the Mondsee Festival under the artistic direction of András Schiff.
The premieres of significant violin concerts performed by Hansheinz Schneeberger include: 1952 - Frank Martin's violin concert, 1958 - by Bèla Bartok's first violin concert and 1970 - Klaus Huber's 'Tempora'.
In 1971 he was awarded the British / American Tobacco prize and in 1995 the Robert Schuhman Prize offered by the city of Zwickau.
