Biography
Sylvia Nopper, a soprano singer living in the Basel region, began with a study of rhythm at the Trossingen School of Music and ended studying voice under Kurt Widmer at Basel Conservatory; it was here that she first discovered an inclination towards contemporary music.
Today she is one of the most sought after singers in the contemporary music scene and cooperates intimately with musicians such as Heinz Holliger or Jürg Wyttenbach. Many of the eighty compositions she has so far performed (premiered) were composed especially for her.
Sylvia Nopper performs worldwide with her regular ensemble 'æquatuor' and the Basel Electronic Art Messengers ('the B.E.A.M.'). as well as with other distinguished orchestras and ensemble such as 'Contrechamps' Geneva, 'Collegium Novum' Zurich, 'Klangforum' Vienna or 'Court-Circuit' Paris.
Besides contemporary music, Sylvia Nopper has a particular love of lieder singing. She is increasingly dedicated to the traditional repertoire of oratorium and chamber music.
