Biography
* 1957.

The Swiss conductor Jürg Henneberger was born in Lucerne, Switzerland. He studied under the tutelage of Jürg Wyttenbach at the Basel Music Academy and the Hamburg Academy of Music and Performing Arts with Klauspeter Seibel and Christoph von Dohnànyi.
Henneberger soon became a well-known specialist in the field of new music which led him to engagements with the leading ensembles in this field and ultimately to the initiation of his own ensemble, the 'Ensemble Phoenix Basel', which, together with distinguished musicians, offered room for the adequate interpretation of his ideas.
Beside this main focus of his work Jürg Henneberger is also a widely sought after artistic director for large-scale opera productions, the majority of which belong to the contemporary repertoire. Productions at the Basel Theatre worthy of mention include 'Aus Deutschland' from Mauricio Kagel and 'Satyricon' from Bruno Maderna under the direction of Herbert Wernickes (invited to the Teatro 'La Fenice' Venice), and the productions under the direction of Christoph Marthaler 'The Unanswered Question' (invited to the 'Deutschen Theatertreffen Berlin 1998'), '20th Century Blues' and the first-performance in Switzerland of the opera 'Die Soldaten' by Bernd Alois Zimmermann. He also directed Alban Berg's 'Lulu' at the Hannover State Theatre in 2002.
Jürg Henneberger has been a lecturer on score playing, chamber music and the interpretation of contemporary music at Basel School of Music since 1989 and the president of the International Society for New Music (ISNM) Basel division since 1998. Jürg Henneberger has been the director of the 'ensemble für neue musik zürich' since 1993.
As a pianist he performs as a chamber musician and lied accompanist.
